Notes to editors
Inspire Peterborough is a project of Disability Peterborough, a local registered disability charity. Inspire Peterborough promotes sport and leisure activities, as well as promoting Health and Well-being initiatives and support for disabled people and their family members and carers.
Building upon the legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, we will support and inspire all disabled people to have better life outcomes through participating in sport, leisure activities and volunteering.
In April 2015 we were awarded a Comic Relief Red Nose Day Community Cash grant thanks to the Cambridgeshire Community Foundation to start an Inclusive Ice Skating project. This project enables families who have disabled children or parents to spend time together on the ice, playing and learning to skate. We are also able to offer grading, bum in a bucket thanks to support from the Phantoms Sledge Hockey Team and new is ice hockey. As a direct result of the Inspire project Peterborough is fast becoming recognised as a centre for excellence in inclusive ice sports and currently has the largest fully inclusive group in the country 420 members. The project was a finalist in the Living Sport Sports Awards “Mathew Warn Power of Sport” category and Calum Titmus for the “Jonnie Peacock” category in November 2015.
