Inspire Peterborough Sporting Saturday

Saturday 24 Jan saw Inspire Peterborough’s “Sporting Saturday” and we the Pboroguys were there. Along with our friends Radio Peterborough who were broadcasting live from the event.

Now for those of you that don’t know what Inspire Peterborough is about let me tell you quickly.

It is an arm of Disability Peterborough, a local registered disability charity. The aim is to help Disabled people, their families and carers to engage in sports and leisure activities and    promoting Health and Well-being initiatives. Inspire has been built upon the legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The event was well organised and many different charities where there including “Little People UK “  who’s patron is Local celebrity Warwick Davies. ,”SAAFA” and “Little  Miracles” where also there as well but to name a few. Also there was Local Sports Clubs like Peterborough Rowing Club, Peterborough indoor Bowls Club, to Martial arts Clubs like “MPSK Martial Arts”.

Warwick Davis was there not only as Patron of Little People UK but also supporting Inspire Peterborough and Feel the Force Day. Local MP Stewart Jackson was there along with The Major of Peterborough Councillor David Over and the deputy Mayor Councillor Christopher Harper.

Throughout the day there was lots to see and do with lots of demos from Martial Arts, Boxing, and Tai Chi to Archery and in door curling. This was a great event promoting and showing what disabled people are able to achieve and do with the right help. Having worked myself with disabled many years ago and always hearing how some disabled people found it hard to do sports as not many sports clubs catered for the disabilities, It was great to see times have changed. I would recommend any disabled person reading this that want to get involve or want a challenge to get in contact with Inspire Peterborough. They are at the YMCA Gym, Cresset, Peterborough, PE3 8DX. (Map)
