Junior Rowing at Peterborough City Rowing Club

Peterborough City Rowing Club are able to offer membership to approximately 20 – 30 junior athletes each year. As the level of interest is high, juniors are assessed via a Taster Session and Learn 2 Row course (L2R). To help us choose who should be offered places on this L2R, or go on the waiting list for future courses, coaches will be running basic assessments at the Taster Session to enable them to see if children have the potential to succeed and do well in the sport. Given the demand, we will only be offering the course places to those we feel are most able to succeed and show most potential for the sport, thus allowing them to achieve maximum benefit from the experience.

For the taster sessions, children will need to bring lightweight clothes, preferably close-fitting, a sweatshirt and leggings in case it is cold, a change of clothes, a towel, a drink and a snack. During the session children will have the opportunity to take part in an ergo (rowing machine) challenge and try rowing. Coaches and existing members will be available to chat to you and your child. The coaching team will use this session to assess whether children are ready for L2R.

There is a course fee of £80 which covers the requirements of British Rowing and club expenses. During this course, your child will have more intensive training in the basic sculling techniques to prepare those selected for membership of our Development Squad.
